Innocent Chukwuma Award for Innovation by #StartupSouth will honor an individual/organization in recognition of their contribution to the development of the Innovation Ecosystem in Nigeria.
Innocent in his life-time used his resources, positions and influence to advance deepening of the Innovation Ecosystem in Nigeria. He supported many Innovation Hubs (and projects) both in his personal capacity and through his position as Regional Director, West Africa at Ford Foundation.
He was the brain behind The Made-in-Aba Hackathon which was funded by Ford Foundation and delivered by TBWA in partnership with #StartupSouth.
He also setup Oluaka Institute and Heartland Technology Hub as a way to deepen innovation education in Nigeria and the South-East in particular.
He was a founding member of the Innovation Support Network – an umbrella body of Nigerian Innovation Hubs and Ford Foundation under his leadership funded the first annual Convening of the body.
This Award in his honor is in extension of his legacy and to encourage more people to take his footsteps. This Award category will be decided by a Jury made up of eminent personalities and Associates of Late Mr. Chukwuma.
